Mako Shark Rally Virtual Event Opening Remarks

Video Message from Canada

We were delighted to have Hon Bernadette Jordan, Canada’s Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and Canadian Coast Guard, open our Shark League Rally for Makos on April 20, 2021 with a clear commitment for continued global leadership as a mako shark champion.

Canada is calling on other countries to join them – implement the science advice to ban retention of makos in the North Atlantic and pass the measure proposed at ICCAT.

The EU is a key party blocking protection at the international level. The EU Rally for Makos website has letters and tweets and an Action Map from where you can send them to each EU Member State before the next set of negotiations kicking off in May.
