New Ways to #Rally4Makos this Summer

Date: August 5, 2021

Keep mako shark protection on the agenda of EU and US decision makers throughout the summer

Even though the summer holidays are often a time to slow down and take it easy, the #Rally4Makos to protect the fastest shark in the world continues!

This #MakoMonday, 9 August,  we’re launching new ways to #MakeTime4Makos and take action to turn the tide for these Endangered sharks.

Prized for meat, fins, and sport, shortfin makos are among the Atlantic’s most valuable and imperiled sharks. They are fished across entire ocean basins by many nations, yet there are no international mako catch limits. Since 2017 ICCAT* Scientists have advised a complete ban on fishing boats retaining North Atlantic shortfin mako to reverse decline and rebuild within ~50 years. Yet overfishing continues.

It’s essential that we keep mako shark protection on the agenda of EU and US decision makers throughout the summer! Send a #MakeTime4Makos digital postcard to urge support for a complete North Atlantic shortfin mako retention ban, as repeatedly advised by scientists.
